This season brings us amid the days being longer and the nights shorter. Summer days are loved by many, as it is the perfect weather that appeals to getting them outdoors and engaging in fun activities. This calls for a refresher of some sort to keep hydrated while out and about.

This Watermelon Coconut Mint Juice recipe is a great tasting and refreshing way to keep you hydrated while handling the summer heat. It’s very important that you keep hydrated if you are going to be outdoors for an extended period on sunny days. The body will begin to lose fluids in such conditions, and if it falls below your intake, this may result in dehydration. It is recommended to stay hydrated so as to replace the loss of these bodily fluids. Extreme dehydration may cause dizziness, loss of consciousness and other health problems.

What better way there is to stay hydrated like having a nice, cold and refreshing drink. Lemonade tends to be the number one choice in this instance, but this recipe can easily be another favorable option.

 

Watermelons have a high water content ranging to over 90% which makes them a perfect refresher during summer days. Some of its nutrients include vitamin c, potassium and a rich source of lycopene, which is a very powerful plant compound and an important antioxidant responsible for giving the fruit its red color.

High levels of lycopene can be found in watermelons which adds great nutritional value to the fruit. Lycopene is said to be a phytonutrient, which are chemicals found in plant-based foods that aid the body to function properly by removing toxins from the body, preventing cell damage and boosting immunity protecting the body from diseases.

The main benefits you could get from watermelons are that it lowers blood pressure, prevents damages to cells by removing free radicals thus reducing the risk of cancer and heart disease. Also, it reduces inflammation and muscle soreness mainly experienced by athletes who carry out vigorous exercises.

Like watermelons, coconut water as the name suggests also holds a significant amount of water content of over 90%. It is a great source to obtain natural electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium. Electrolyte is a mineral that plays an important role in allowing the cells and organs in our bodies to function normally. Electrolytes hydrate the body, enable the nerve and muscles to function properly, support heart health, regulate body fluids and overall aids in maintaining good health.

 The body loses electrolytes mainly through sweat which is normally due to hot weather, exercises and sporting activities. Coconut water is a great way to adequately replace the fluids and electrolytes that were lost so as to prevent dehydration and other health issues.

The benefits of coconut water are also similar to that of watermelons as it hydrates the body, lowers blood pressure, supports heart health, enables the nerves and muscles to function properly among other things.

This Watermelon Coconut Mint Juice recipe is a great tasting and refreshing way to keep you hydrated while handling the summer heat. Bursting with hints of tropical flavors that will ultimately quench your thirst.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ of a small watermelon (amount to about 2 cups)
  • 1 lime
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Sprig of fresh mint leaves

Instructions
 

  • Add all the ingredients to a blender. Add only 3 leaves of the mint to the blender.
  • Blend until smooth
  • Serve chilled. You may garnish your drink with mint leaves or lemon wedge

Notes

If the watermelon used is very sweet, you don’t need to add the honey in this recipe
You can add more mint leaves in the ingredient to suit your preferred taste
You may use lime or lemon, whichever you have on hand
You can use a melon with or without seeds. The seeds are perfectly healthy too!
Have some fun with garnishing this recipe to your liking, otherwise you can have it plain

    Yum! I loooove blending my watermelon. Perfect, and just in time for summer! I've never tried it with mint though. That is such a great idea. It sounds even more refreshing.
